Hello, I am posting on behalf of a friend even less tech-savvy than me. She recently opened a retail unit, and decided on Sentinel as her retail software soltion. A local vendor duly whisked off her computer, installed the software and returned the pc. No manual, no discs, no reg codes, just a hefty price tag, but the epos system does its job
My involvement started when the computer started misbehaving: I found it had an anachronistic 4 gig hard drive and the registry was corrupt beyond belief: the solution I decided on was a back up of the Sentinel sales data, a new hard drive and clean windows installation. However, as there was no sentinel disc or reg code, I was reticent to do it: Sentinel was worth more than the actual pc. Vendor was contacted; he first off stated he couldn't provide a disc and that the program could not be reinstalled on a new HDD without repurchasing, perhaps mistaking himself for Bill Gates. Now he has decided that he could reinstall, but only he, personally, could do it. I have been trying to discover who actually develops Sentinel and find out if this vendor has simply bought one license and is distributing it to all his customers. This is causing my friend no little consternation and i would like to know if other vendors have actually supplied discs and if anyone has encountered licensing issues concerning reinstalling their own purchsed software or even getting hold of the installion disc, which this particular vendor seems incredibly reticent to hand over.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
