We are starting to review our options for POS hardware and wondered if others were willing to offer their experience with hardware?  Many people find this site during their search for POS and may be very helpful for others as well.

Specifically:

  • Do you have a preference to POS dedicated type workstations or CPU plus peripherals and why?
  • Which POS workstations would you recommend or avoid?  Why?
  • Would you suggest any "must have" or "avoid like the plague" peripheral companies, brands or products?

Assume readers have read Jeff's hardware guide (BTW that was very useful Jeff so thanks) so this thread is intended to provide real-life experiences not functional descriptions.

Thanks for all who take the time to post their experiences.

Wendy

I personally like the Posiflex JIVA 5815 series. Avoid anything else made by
posiflex. Use an Epson printer, a symbol scanner, etc.

Hi Wendy,
We supply Tysso terminals. These days the integrated solution seems to be far more popular. Although the modular systems give the opportunity of upgrading memory etc, it seems redundant now that the machine are so powerful anyway. It also works out that the integrated units are cheaper and just as robust.

We would recommend our Tysso POSstation 7000. Go figure?!?

In terms of peripherals, they are mostly plug and play or have simple installation. Sometimes you have to configure ports to work with the OS, which can be arsey, but that is normally done by the install team. Here's a selection of great
peripherals.

Hope this helps with your reviews!

The Retail Blade by DigiPos is a great POS workstation.

Printers: EPSON TMT 88

Scanners: Metrologic or Symbol

Cash Drawers: MS-Cash Drawer

Scale/Scanner: Metrologic

HP's products are really nice as well. They have been doing some great things the last few years.

I don't sell hardware but if you need to source some message me and I can put you in contact with some reliable and reputable hardware vendors.

Good Luck
